An early pioneer in the cannabis industry in California, I did not follow the laws the city, state and federal laws held that deemed Marijuana as an illegal drug. I was raised in the culturally hippy city of Berkeley where Cannabis was viewed as some Rastafarians express a "Holy Herb". I graduated from the prestigious University of California at Berkeley in 1998., and held the position of Director of Event Technology at multiple luxury hotels such as the Fairmont San Francisco, Parc 55 Hotel and Park Central Hotel. Executing annual events for companies such a Oracle, Sales force, Google, LinkedIn, and Facebook. And as the caring person I am, I was always available to help patients get the special medicine they needed, and without a pharmacy to work out of,
or clinic to administer medicine out of....
I became what some refer to as a "Street Pharmacist"
Now as my "casual" business began to grow, and the industry began to attract attention. I was arrested in Sacramento CA, and charged with Cannabis cultivation which would in soon passing years, become fully legal. And after 6 years of fighting the felony charges, which were being enforced by federal agencies. I was finally acquitted on all charges. Then the City of Sacramento created a community equity program to make attempts to rectify the damaging effects the federal drug policies had on minority communities. Now I am being offered no interest funding to start a legal business cannabis based on my prior arrest.
"Whoa how the tables have turned"
Inspired by my new opportunity with city to start a Cannabis business, I quickly looked for programs where I could seriously enhance my understanding of the herb to maximize this once in a life time opportunity. What I found was the countries 1st Master's Program for cannabis. What the program taught me besides, how to use pharmaceutics to assure safe and effective design, development, and manufacture of medical cannabis products. Was that there is a large population of cannabis users that unfortunately fits the criteria for Cannabis Use Disorder or C.U.D.. Coupled with Cannabis Withdrawal Syndrome or C.W.S these are two very serious issues that I become very passionate about solving. This cause has guided my course electives such as MCST 607 Negative Physical, Psychiatric, and Social Effects of Cannabis and MCST 609 Advanced Cannabinoid Chemistry and Analytic Testing Methodology. These were some of the most impactful courses during this program. Giving me the understanding necessary to deal with cannabis use disorder as well as the tools for developing products and therapies that can address cannabis withdrawal syndrome.
With a clear direction to help reduce cannabis abuse and cannabis withdrawal Syndrome I set my sights on developing a "one-a-day" pill that would help relieve patients from symptoms of cannabis withdrawal, as well reduces the over all need for patients to consume marijuana from smoking, which has been demonstrated harm the lungs, cardiovascular system as well memory loss. With the support of the City of Sacramento's equity program I intend to write a proposal to begin to create research and development strategies for producing the mix for the one-a-day pill. MCST will put me, the once labeled "Street Pharmacist" in the
middle of a real laboratory where I can created the product
I was destined to create.

During the course of the program, I gained new awareness of my own personal struggle with cannabis use disorder. For so many cannabis use can be camouflaged as "recreational" when they are truly suffering from mental stressors that cannabis as been their only relief. As my awareness grew into understanding cannabis withdrawal syndrome, it greatly influenced my reflections. Which where key to witnessing my perceptions change. The terminal performance objectives that were the most influential were understanding the negative physical, psychiatric, and psychosocial effects of cannabis in individuals and populations. Discovery of the pharmaceutics to assure safe and effective design, development, and manufacture of medical cannabis products. As well as applying knowledge of analytical toxicology methods to identify, quantify, and interpret results related to cannabinoid use and misuse. The following pieces of work exemplify these objectives.
Please enjoy....
Applying knowledge of historical and current laws, regulations, and policies to identify, analyze, and advocate for emerging issues related to medical cannabis and health.
The course was based on the unfortunate history of Cannabis regulation.
First in depth writing on the history of cannabis.
Overview of the legislation that lead to current laws
Describing negative physical, psychiatric, and psychosocial effects of cannabis in individuals and populations. My reflection on the 1st semester of the program. This when I really began to find my passion for cannabis use disorder and cannabis withdrawal symptoms. Also where I began to grown confidence in my understanding of cultural changes that are expressing of mental health needs as opposed recreational smoking.
Applying concepts of analytical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, and pharmaceutics to assure safe and effective design, development, and manufacture of medical cannabis products. Great pieces of writing demonstrating my clear grasp of complex drug delivery concepts. These pieces and this course led directly to my confidence in a pill form being the most healthy way of consuming cannabis while keeping its effectiveness high.
Fantastic group project creating learning materials for Maryland Family Healthcare. Demonstrating a commitment to excellence through continuing professional development and the education and training of patients, healthcare professionals. Great group collaboration that will actually be used in the medical practice. A great opportunity to contribute to community and patient education.
